Welcome to "Places I Remember: Landscapes, Life, and Local Scenes" Gallery!
Many of these paintings were inspired by locations around Wilmington, North Carolina when my UNC-W painting class spent two semesters painting on location through St. John's Museum in the historic downtown area. This was a wonderful experience in studying things like changing light, developing a little more spontaneity, choosing a perspective, and seeing scenes and places that seemed 'ordinary,'in their familiarity, in a new way. In a sense, I learned to see in a new way, or a more intense way, and painting as a medium really took hold for me as a way of expressing that.
I'd like to continue painting landscapes and scenes that are both familiar and those far off, some that I hope to see, those stretched out right in front of me that are painted on site, and some that are born within my thoughts and imagination. I hope you enjoy those that I have posted!
